More than three million euros of European funding will be invested to provide the town with better tourist services
The three million euros to be invested in Finestrat come from NextGenerationEU funding programme and will help the town to further improve its tourism provision and expand its services. The hanging houses of La Penya, the old town's quintessential iconic landmark, are set to benefit from this funding. Part of the money will be used to complete work already underway to prop up the cliff face. Plans are also in place to install ornamental LED lighting, helping to make the houses more attractive and highlighting the outline of the lower part of the town at night.
The upper part of the old town will also benefit from investments made with the three million euros of NextGenerationEU funding programme. Improvements are also planned for the access routes along the steep streets leading up to the Castell area, where the chapel, auditorium and the music sculpture are located. This is a very popular area with tourists, not just for its iconic buildings but also because it’s a beautiful park area inhabited by many native species and with unrivalled views of the Mediterranean Sea and Puig Campana mountain. This is where concerts and open-air performances are held in the summer season, so these access works are of vital importance.
The construction of the pedestrian green ring route will be the third major factor in the work to spruce up Finestrat and improve local services. This ring route will serve to link the upper and lower part of the town, allowing pedestrian and cyclist traffic between the town centre and La Foia sports complex and climbing up to the car park and Casa de Cultura.
The investment made with the European funding means that Cala de Finestrat will have a brand new tourist office on the beach front. The new Tourist Info is due to open in the coming weeks. The office's 80 square metres will house a tourist information desk, a playroom and technology equipment based on an immersive cube simulating experiences like descending from Puig Campana mountain, diving in La Cala or touring the town's prettiest corners. This technology involves the use of artificial intelligence.
In late 2021, Finestrat was one of the 11 municipalities in the Region of Valencia to secure this kind of funding
