Registration is open for runners wanting to do the “Kilómetro Vertical Puig Campana”
The countdown is on for the “Kilómetro Vertical Puig Campana”. Sunday 23 April will be the day when runners taking part in this sporting activity will have to cover a distance of 3.6 kilometres with an elevation gain of 1,050 metres. The race is organised by Finestrat Town Council Sports Department, the Challenge 8000 Mountain Club (Club de Montaña Reto 8000), and the Mountain Sports and Climbing Federation of the Valencian Region (FEMECV). Registration is now open, and you can sign up until 20 April on the website www.mychip.es. The race will be limited to 300 participants.
The “Kilómetro Vertical Puig Campana” is the oldest event of its kind held in Spain. It's one of the most exciting and vibrant trail races that attracts fans of the sport to this natural setting with its rugged mountain terrain only a short distance away from the sea. This sporting event has been held in the town for 14 years and the overall record has been held since 2011 by Italian athlete Urban Zemmer, who reached the top in 35 minutes and 43 seconds. The women's record has also been held since 2011 by Laura Orgué, with a time of 44 minutes and 1 second. One of the best performances by local runners was achieved by Vicente Llorca Climent “Tato”, who reached the top in a time of 44 minutes and 4 seconds.
This edition maintains its OPEN status, so mountain sports federation members and non-members alike over 18 years old can take part. This means that trophies and timings will also apply to runners who don't hold a federation licence. The organisers of the “Kilómetro Vertical Puig Campana” stress that the finisher's t-shirt and choice of size can only be guaranteed until 3 April. The race will start at 9:00 am in Plaça de la Unió Europea, with neutralised departures in groups up to Font del Molí, where the timed starts will be given. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 1:30 pm.
