The Museu de Finestrat traces the Ancient History of the town through the archaeological ruins
Visiting museums is an extraordinary leisure option when visiting a town. Finestrat has an emblematic museum, located in the centre of a beautiful urban park, called Alcalde Miguel Llorca, which reviews the extensive history of this municipality since the first human settlements were evident in the Upper Palaeolithic. In it you can see the archaeological remains of thousands of years divided into four historical stages: Prehistory, the Ancient Age, the Middle Ages and the Modern and Contemporary Age.
This extensive historical journey that Finestrat has should not be too surprising, as it is located on the western shores of the Mediterranean, the cradle of civilization. It is known that since the fourth century BC the municipality of Finestrat is one of the most important Iberian settlements in the province of Alicante. The Tossal de La Cala is its main exponent and others of singular importance have been documented in recent years, so it is increasingly certain that this small town in the Marina Baixa was one of the gateways to this oriental world that inhabited the other end of this beautiful sea. This flowering of the Iberian culture also indicates the proliferation of Roman sites in the area. From the second century BC onwards, structures and materials related to the Romanisation of the municipality have been documented.
The archaeological remains and explanations of all these historical stages can be seen in the Museu de Finestrat. It is a good family leisure option to do during the visit to the old town. The schedule to visit the museum is:
Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Thursday and Friday from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 21:00.
Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
(Except for the last weekend of the month, which remains closed)
