This Sunday a new edition of the Km Vertical Race is being held at Puig Campana mountain
Everything is ready for this Sunday 23 April, when the Km Vertical Race is being held at Puig Campana. Runners taking part in this latest edition of the race will be gathering from 9:00 in the morning in Plaça de l'Unió Europea. It's the oldest event of its kind in Spain and one of the most exciting and spectacular trail races for fans of this sport of running through the countryside. The race is run over a distance of 3.6 kilometres with a positive height gain of 1,050 metres.
This sporting event has been held in Finestrat for 14 years. The overall record has been held since 2011 by Italian runner Urban Zemmer, who reached the top of the mountain in 35 minutes and 43 seconds. The women's record is held by Laura Orgué, with 44 minutes and 1 second. In terms of local runners, the best time was set by Vicent Climent “Tato”, with 44 minutes and 4 seconds.
This event is organised by Finestrat Town Council Sports Department, the Valencia Federation of Mountain Sports and Climbing (FEMECV) and the Reto 8000 Mountain Club. This year, all athletes can take part in the event, regardless of whether they're federation members or not. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 1:30 pm.
