The old town of finestrat is gradually making a plae for itself in the wide range of tourist attractions in the Marina Baixa. It is becoming more and more common to see visitors walkinf through the narrow, winding streets that run through what was one an Arab farmhouse, Even the travellers who drag their wheeled suitcases through the steep streets to access some of the colouful houses on both sides are beginning to altrract no attention, and wich today have been converted into touris accommodation.
There have been many years of effort to bring this picturesque oldd town out of anonymity, which is barely six lilometres away from the beach of La Cala. Is is also true that there has been an evolution in the tastes of tourists visiting the Cosata Blanca. In this context, and taking advantage of the European aid of the Next Generation Plan, a project has been designe d to make it easier to access one of te highest and most difficult to reach enclaves, such as the area of El Castell, wjere the Hermitage an the Amphitheatre are erected, from where you can get some of the best panoramic views, not onlyof the municipality, with the bell tower of its church on one side and the imposing Puig Campana, on the other, but of the entire bay that extends practically to the entrace of Alicante.
This new project will ling the Plaça de la Unió Europea, which is located at the entrance to the municipality and consists of a lage underground car park, and the El Castell site, which is at its highest point. To this end, an elevator will be buit with a concrete structure, wich will be stone-colored so that it blends into the ladscape, and a metal walkway, 28 meteres long, brown and with glass in a bluish tobe to combine with the color of the sky. In this way, residents and visitors will be able to esaily reach the Hermitage, the Auditorium and the Municipal Library while they will be able to enjoy the Mediterranean garden that surrounds this beautiful finestratí corner.
