The blue flag flies again in La Cala of Finestrat
The blue flag flies again in La Cala of Finestrat. For yet another year it has been distinguished with this prized award which recognises the good quality of the water, its fine sand and all the services provided to the bathers who choose this pretty little bay to spend their days off. This distinction was awarded for the first time in 1987, which means that more than three decades of good work have gone into ensuring that this little Mediterranean jewel shines in all its splendour.
La Cala of Finestrat is a small beach, barely 300 metres long. It is bordered to the north by the Barreta and the Xoriguer, a rocky ridge, marks its border to the south. It has been photographed hundreds of times by tourists due to its beauty, especially on the rare stormy days, as it offers a spectacular shot of the waves breaking on this rock. Its waters are, with few exceptions, very calm, warm and crystal-clear, perfect for swimming.
This small bay, located between Benidorm and La Vila Joiosa, is an urban beach surrounded by a promenade, boasting Mediterranean colours. The beach ends in a large square, popularly known as Plaça de l'Àmfora, named after the building that used to stand there. In the middle there is a public car park with about one hundred parking spaces. This is where the new Tourist Info Office was opened this Easter, with the aim of providing tourists with all the information they may need.
In the summer months it is no longer quiet and gets lively. Numerous leisure and sporting activities take place here. Undoubtedly, one of the most eagerly awaited is the beach volleyball tournament, which is held in mid-August and is the most famous in Spain, so it is common for top volleyball players to come.
