The Green Flag flies in Finestrat for its commitment to the recycling of glass containers
Cala de Finestrat is one of the emblematic corners of the Mediterranean, on its shores of the Spanish Levante. It is also one of the most visited places, as it is an urban beach, very charming and appetizing, which is also easy to access. Thousands of tourists come every year to enjoy its fine sand and transparent waters. Taking care of it and preserving it is, without a doubt, one of the greatest challenges facing the Finnish administration, in order to make it possible to enjoy it with the least possible environmental impact. Year after year, this effort is rewarded, both by tourists who choose it again, and by the different organizations that reward it again for its good condition, becoming a benchmark of quality for the Costa Blanca brand.
La Cala is also the name given to this part of the municipal territory of Finestrat. Looking at this small cove are a multitude of bars and cafes, which have the privilege of being able to serve a clientele that morning, noon and night choose them, in addition to their good work, for the immense pleasure of having a good time, having on their horizon spectacular views and background music whose notes are composed by the going and come from the waves. This small choice satisfies all the senses of the human being, because to the previous exposed, we must add the exquisite smells that come out of the kitchens of the restaurants, without forgetting the pleasure of feeling caressed by the sea breeze.
This idyllic moment entails, however, a great effort to maintain over time the beauty of the place and the possibility that future generations can also enjoy these magical moments. Some data such as the fact that Finestrat collected a total of 65 tonnes of glass containers during 2023 allow us to understand the Herculean task of preserving this beautiful corner of the Mediterranean, especially when it is explained that the environmental benefit of this daily act is the equivalent of the CO2 processed by 61 trees over 100 years. The reward is the loyalty of the tourists who choose La Cala to spend their holidays, without overlooking their involvement, as well as that of all the residents of the municipality, in this important work. The second reward is official recognition in the form of a Green Flag. Thank you.
