Learn how to make the Mona at the L'Ereta festival celebrated on Easter Monday
The Feast of L'Ereta is the culmination of these Easter mini-holidays. This celebration goes back a long way in time and is still maintained today, although the passing of the years is noticeable, since some of the traditions have evolved towards today's tastes, but the essence is still present. On Easter Monday, the residents of Finestrat gather at the Font del Molí, an enclosure located on the slopes of Puig Campana, to eat the Mona, a typical sweet from the province of Alicante, which is like burnt bread with a boiled egg inside. The older ones say that before eating it a small ritual was performed, which was accompanied by the phrase "ací em pica, ací em cou, ací em trenque la mona i ací em menge l'ou". That is, before taking the first bite, the egg was crushed in the nose of the person next to him. Nothing remains of this ceremony today, except for the memory that has been passed down from father to son. What has remained is the party and the desire to have a good time.
This Easter Monday, April 21, from 12 noon and in the Font del Molí, you will enjoy the best atmosphere and gastronomy. There will be bouncy castles for the little ones, musical entertainment with the banner and bar at popular prices, which will be in charge of the 2025 Festival Commission, the El Balconet hut.
Yesterday and today sweets have played a very important role in the day of L'Ereta. For this reason, this year there will be a demonstration of how the Mona de Pascua is made and it will be carried out by the Nou Dolç pastry shop, located at Carre Nou, 22, and at 5:00 p.m. there will be the tasting of this sweet.
